Home gardeners, here’s the answer to what to do you do with your plastics nursery pots. As you no doubt know, the MCIA’s curbside recycling program does not accept plastic plant containers such as pots, hanging baskets, trays or tags that are used with live nursery items. The garden centers below accept these pots which would otherwise be trashed and give home gardeners a responsible recycling option.
1621 N Olden Ave
Ewing Township, NJ 08638

All Home Depot stores accept a variety of items for recycling, including plastic nursery containers of all kinds. There is a collection bin at the front of the store and in the garden center.
3504 Brunswick Pike
Princeton, NJ 08540
Hours: Mon-Sat 6 Am – 9 Pm | Sun 8 Am – 7 Pm
All Lowes stores also accept plastic nursery pots, trays, hanging baskets, tags and other plastic nursery items that you cannot include in your curbside pickup. They provide a cart for stores and customers to return plastic plant trays, pots and tags, regardless of condition. No matter where consumers purchase the plant, they are encouraged to return the materials to a Lowe’s Garden Center to be recycled. Materials are returned to Lowes suppliers and sorted. The reusable material is sterilized and reintroduced to the production cycle. Serviceable trays are recovered and reused in the growing, shipping and sale of live plants. Material not deemed reusable is crushed, banded and sent for recycling
